Paulo is an artist, educator, researcher, and performer of Brazilian popular dances. Originally from Pernambuco and now based in Rio de Janeiro, his work is rooted in Northeast Brazilian traditions, including Frevo, Maracatu, Coco de Roda, and Carimbo.
An award-winning dancer and choreographer, Paulo has built an extensive career across Rio’s Carnaval, television, and across major international stages.
Amongst his credits he has performed in the comissão de frente for leading samba schools, Estação Primeira de Mangueira and Mocidade Independente de Padre Miguel, and is a regular performer and choreographer with the renowned stage production Ginga Tropical.
Alongside his performance career, Paulo is a dedicated educator, sharing Brazilian popular dance across schools, communities, and inclusive spaces.
Paulo brings a unique depth of knowledge and lived experience in a variety of Brazilian cultural expressions and traditions that Australian dancers rarely experience here, taught at the highest professional level and grounded in authentic cultural context.
